On the frosty morning of December 8th, competition was fierce as the remaining two teams battled it out for bragging rights as the 2012 Intramural Flag Football champions. Each fall semester at NU, flag football teams are organized by living areas as residents of Gray and Beatty halls, the upper-classmen apartments, married housing, and off campus compete against one another. Flag football is just one of many activities offered by the Rec. Sports Department at NU. Other programs include men & women’s basketball, volleyball, soccer, and additional activities depending on student interest such as ultimate frisbee, disc golf tournaments, and even dodgeball.
Northwest University’s campus was recently home to the training facility of the Seattle Seahawks, which has provided a unique playing experience for students. Although the Hawks have since moved to their new facility in nearby Renton, their professional-grade fields remain in place and are regularly used by students. Unlike varsity sports programs, all students are welcome to participate in the campus-sponsored activities, which creates a great opportunity to meet other students with similar interests.
The Championship Game featured the off-campus team, versus the campus apartments. It was a close game, but ultimately off-campus prevailed, claiming bragging-rights and their exclusive T-shirts. The team will join decades of previous champs immortalized in this year’s issue of Karisma, NU’s annual yearbook.
