Being new to the area, I knew Northwest existed because of family, and had been involved in sister schools. But I didn'’t realize it had any programs that fit me and my interests.

Why the ICD

We were considering the U.K., Kenya, other parts of Africa, as well as universities all over the U.S. and I had never seen a program just like this one, so it caught my attention right away.

When I read what the core part of it was being global cultural awareness and social justice from a Christian perspective that was the foundation I was looking for.

Experience at Northwest

The thing I liked most about the program was the cohort experience.

I spent 40 hours each semester researching the issue of fair trade, specifically related to fair trade agreements that our government has signed.

The angle I ended up taking was looking at Congolese perspectives versus Western perspectives through the lens of mineral exploitation in the country.

One of the strengths of the program is that it allows you to dip into so many different areas and probe several different interests.
